A wild obese monkey has been rescued by wildlife officials in Bangkok Thailand and put on a special diet to combat his morbid weight, according to The Associated Press.
Uncle Fat gained his weight by eating all the junk food and soda given to him by some tourists. He became popular on social media because of his size. And it brought attention to the Wild life officials in Bangkok. Uncle Fat is also the leader of the wild monkey mafia.
“He was the leader of his pack, and when I tried to go in, I had to fight off a flock of them with sticks,” wildlife official Kacha Phukem told AP.
“He had minions and other monkeys bringing food for him but he would also re-distribute it to younger monkeys,” added veterinarian Supakarn Kaewchot, noting that Uncle Fat’s weight puts him at risk of heart disease.
Uncle Fat is believed to be between 10 and 15 years old. To help him lose weight, his new diet is limited to 400 grams worth of lean protein, fruits and vegetables twice a day. Supakarn said she hopes that within a few months they can consider releasing him to the wild.
